Hi everybody!

I'm just a few weeks away from retirement, and I want to take up metal detecting. At the moment I don't even own a metal detector, but I live in Maidstone (Kent) and it seems that C Scope are fairly local to me as they are based in Ashford.

I would like to support local business, so I'm looking into getting a C scope - so it seemed sensible to join this forum and try to soak up some iof your accumulated epertise and advice!

If anybody knows of any cubs local to me where I could go and have a chat to local detectorists then I would be grateful for a heads-up. I believe some clubs are not taking new members, and I'm not too sure of the protocols.

I would describe myself as 'fairly technical' - by which I mean I'm far from being a technophobe, and I tend to learn fast. I think I would get bored with an ultra-simple beginner's machine (hope that doesn't sound too big-headed!).

At the moment I'm looking at the CS4 MXi - but I could probably be persuaded to shell out a bit more if it is really worthwhile! All and any views welcome....  Smile

My reason for settling on the CS4 is that I think the dual discrimination would be useful for getting a 'second opinion' about the signals encountered, and I suspect the ability to do a manual ground balance (which the CS3 cannot do) is also a big plus point.

Do you think the CS6 is a 'great leap forward' from the CS4? I'm a bit onfused about the CS6 as photos show the control box mounted right at the end of a straight shaft. How do you operate the controls (pinpointer for example) in that configuration?

Anyway your thoughts and suggestions would be gratefully received!

welcome ican

get a 6mxi, fantastic machine best machine i have owned , and i,v owned a few in my 20 odd years in this hobby   you have option of mounting  control box  under your elbow   or in front like most detectors, reason for mounting under elbow  is that it balances the machine  better, making it less tiresome
i,never personally use the  pinpointer, these machines are so Sharpe  on a target ,its not needed, jmo

as a bonus  cscope after sales team  are the best bar none, any problems a phone call and you will be sorted

Thank you very much for your response Smile

I will definitely think seriously about a CS6MX. It certainly llooks to be a well-built machine, and it's really helpful to hear from somebody with your experience!

Yes, saw your post and read with interest. So pleased to hear from you. What do you think of the story that has been on bbc news today about the code machine sold by an old dear on ebay for £9.50 +keep the change ?? Really angry i am that museum has acted in a questionable manner and badly underpaid her. I am asking all detectorists to consider the justice of this matter , please. Tim.
