According to cscope it goes deeper, plus you've got more coverage of course. Searchwise it's just as sharp and crisp as the standard coil, but it is quite a bit heavier. I moved the control box to under the armrest to restore balance.

I didn't test it on a testbed, but I took some targets at impressive depths. But once on a field you only search with one coil at a time, so at the moment I can only judge it on gut feeling, which is good. Would be great if someone could post a real comparison between the two.

If you're just starting out I'd advise you to go out with the standard coil, search as much as time permits and get used to the detector. You don't really need the bigger coil to dig up nice finds, the standard coil is great. Where the bigger coil comes in handy is later in season when everyone has been up and over the fields, to pry out those last little nuggets (and small pieces of foil, and pulltabs, and pieces of coke cans, etcetera, etcetera).
There's nothing like digging a deep hole because of a very nice high signal, only to find out that the farmer really likes shredding up Red Bull cans.
